Biblical Foundations: The idea draws spiritual inspiration from passages like Psalm 139:13–14 ("You knit me together in my mother’s womb") and Old Testament traditions like the Jewish tallit (a fringed prayer shawl worn to remember God's commandments).

The modern Prayer Shawl Ministry movement began in 1998 at the Hartford Seminary in Connecticut, when founders Janet Severi Bristow and Victoria Galo sought to combine applied prayer and spiritual devotion with the contemplative art of knitting and crocheting. Rooted in ancient traditions of enfolding loved ones in prayer and care, each shawl or blanket is woven with intentional blessings stitched into every row to bring warmth, peace, and spiritual comfort to those facing grief, illness, or major life transitions.
Our Ministry & Community Projects
Through Healing Shawls for Hurting Hearts, our church continues this powerful legacy of handcrafting gifts of grace. Our ministry connects generations: we draw from yarn and unfinished projects preserved in our church craft room—directly weaving the hands and artistry of our predecessors into our modern creations. We also rely on generous yarn donations from church members and local thrift shops.
For our recent summer project, we invited community members to craft individual 4.5" granny squares. We are currently sewing these squares together into beautiful, collaborative blankets that represent the strength and unity of our community.
Sharing the Comfort
Once completed and blessed, our shawls and blankets are donated to neighboring churches, local families, and individuals in need of a tangible reminder of God’s love and support.

We are discussing making scarves and hats, reaching out to hospice and the vets,
